Effective date: March 5, 2026
Komichi ("we", "our", "us") operates the website at app.komichi.io, the marketing site at komichi.io, and the Komichi Web Importer browser extension (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
When you create an account we collect your email address and, if you sign in via Google or Discord, your name and profile picture as provided by those services.
When you import text through the website or the browser extension we store the title, author, category, source URL, and the text content you provide. This data is associated with your account.
We record your reading progress, word interactions (lookups, translations, known-word markings), and usage statistics such as tokens consumed. This data is used to power features like vocabulary tracking and leaderboards.
The Komichi Web Importer extension accesses page content only when you explicitly click "Extract Article", "Use Selection", or "Pick Section". It does not monitor browsing activity, collect data in the background, or run on pages you have not interacted with. Extracted text is sent to our server solely for import into your library. A login session token is stored locally in your browser's extension storage.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, and request timestamps. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not track individual users.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.
We share data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the Service:
We will not share your data with any other third party unless required by law.
Your data is stored in Supabase-managed infrastructure. We use row-level security policies to ensure users can only access their own data. All connections use HTTPS. Authentication tokens are validated server-side on every request.
You can:
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
We use essential cookies only for authentication (Supabase session cookies). We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. The "effective date" at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
